COMMUNITY IMPACT

OUR MISSION IN ACTION

Children in Placement makes a significant difference in the lives of abused, neglected, and abandoned
children every day in Connecticut.

Every year, 15,000 children enter the state’s child welfare system - 4,000 of these children will be seeking placement in foster care, while another 6,000 are in kinship care with family members.

When their parents or guardians abandon or are unable to care for them, the state’s Juvenile and Probate courts are tasked with determining their best interests. Children who thrive have both consistency and attachment to a trusting adult, but when these factors have been undermined by abuse in the home by an adult who should have been caring for them, children experience trauma that could last a lifetime.

With the right individuals acting on their behalf, we may be able to mitigate these circumstances for a more successful transition into adulthood.

Every year, Children in Placement provides advocacy, support, and guidance to 300 abused, neglected, and abandoned children, right here in the state of Connecticut. In addition to those children being served, we include family members that we provide support for, which brings the number being served to approximately 750 clients.

It our goal to ensure that the needs of each child assigned to Children in Placement are being met through wrap around services to promote their general health and well-being. We want to protect, offer guidance, and rebuild trust in those children who have experienced trauma through physical, psychological, and/or emotional abuse by a parent or guardian. We also want to ensure, as well, that the children under our care spend the least amount of time possible in the system, and their cases come to a close via permanent placement.

Every child deserves to feel safe and secure when they lay their head on their pillow each night - but for so many, this is not reality. Together, with the support of the community, Children in Placement continues to be on the front lines of the child welfare system, fighting for the best interests of Connecticut's child victims.

In the midst of chaos and confusion, children need love, support, and stability, and the team at Children in Placement will stop at nothing to ensure that every child who is need has a warm bed and a safe environment where they can grow and prosper.
